How to Refinish Kitchen Cabinets

Nevertheless on this article yet again I will try my best to provide you with some descent information on how to get started with the job.Your first precedence would be to eliminate the aged finish and arrange the surface with proper sanding and stripping.

# Refinishing kitchen cabinets by ‘Stripping’– Step 1

To remove the old paint you can always use a new paint or varnish. There are many available in the market, to name one, you can go for Park’s refinisher or anything else you feel friendly.  Start the process by rubbing the steel wood soaked with the refinisher until your fulfilment. Remember to stroke up and down rather than left to right or vice-versa.  This can be slightly chaotic, if you prefer do this work outside your house or use a sheet to cover your floor before you start the work.

Stripping process can be a bit sluggish and at times it is hard to eliminate all the paints with the stripper. Sanding can be the practice you can choose to get rid of the remaining stripping process.

# Refinish kitchen cabinets by ‘Sanding’ – Step 2

To make your cabinet a bare wood, sanding is the right option to go with. Start the sanding once you ensure that there is no paint left on board. For sanding you can use electric sander that can save you loads of time and patience. You can also go for powder sanders, visit your local paint shop or search the internet to find the best deal. Ebay can be an option for your internet search.

You can get a descent powder sander at an affordable price, starting from $50 and ranging up to $90. Avoid using pad sanders only if you’re performing the final smoothing bits for your kitchen cabinet.

# Cherry Painting or Glazing kitchen cabinets – ‘Finishing’ –Step 3

Now we have reached the end of how to refinish kitchen cabinets. I recommend you to start your finishing touches after ensuring the cabinet to be satisfyingly light and radiant. You can have an array of options here starting from glazing, staining, lacquer painting, varnishing, shine painting and lots more. For example you can refinish your cabinet by adding a cherry stain with polyurethane and apply with a foam brush.

You may also need to perform some sanding bits in between the paint coats. Sand it with a 400gt sander and the recoat with a steel wool and a lit wax for a smoothening effect.

If you want to give your cabinet an antique feeling then glazing can be the perfect option for you. Glazing is a mix of glaze and water or solvent. You can use different types of ratio based on your requirement. Glazing can also be used for highlighting the cabinet board and corners to add an antique feel to it.

Always use a respiratory mask while working with the paints. Paint is nothing but a mixture of chemicals so it can be dangerous. Be careful when working and make your unfinished kitchen cabinets into a masterpiece.
