Kitchen Cabinet Sizes

Kitchen cabinet sizes and proportions of counters and other equipments can cause you problems. Your kitchen is a place where you not only work, assemble to talk but also entertain your guests. It is no doubt one of the most sought after rooms in your house and of course is perhaps the costliest.

Kitchen Cabinet Sizes

It can be beneficial for you to have some basic understanding of the cabinet sizes, so that your kitchen cabinets design is nearer to perfection.

Cabinet measurements are more or less standard. Your wall and base cabinet’s storage area should not be less than 50 square feet. The cabinets normally should have four drawers.

Wall cabinets are normally 12 to 13 inches deep and ranges from 12 to 42 inches in height. You will get base cabinets with 24 inches depth and about 34 inches height. Adjust the height of the cabinets in case you are taller. Cabinets vary from 9 to 48 inches in width.

If you are installing your cabinets in a corner, the kitchen cabinet sizes will perhaps change. You may need to design kitchen cabinets that are custom. With custom design the size options are unlimited. These may have wine racks and rotating shelves. With custom cabinets once you decide on the features you need to decide on the layout of your kitchen.

Your kitchen cabinet idea or plan will depend on the kitchen dimensions, the location of the doors and windows. It also depends on whether you are using the same spot where your earlier cabinets were placed to install the new cabinets.

Your kitchen cabinets remodel plan needs to decide on the shape of the cabinet. The most popular is U shaped. This design needs about 10 feet width. You can also choose the L shaped option. L shaped cabinets gives the homeowner two working areas to work on.

Cabinet sizes also depend on the type of the kitchen cabinet you decide to get for you.

You may decide to go for stock cabinets or semi custom cabinets or even custom cabinets.

Depending on your choice and the kitchen dimensions you will need to make the selection. The placement of your sink, location of other fixtures and the height of the ceiling all combined affect the size of the cabinet.

The standard sizes mentioned above only pertain to the factory built stock kitchen cabinets. If your size requirements are not regular, you need to go for custom kitchen cabinets. These too will follow the same standards.

Stock kitchen cabinets normally fit all kitchens, as the ranges of sizes in which they are sold are wide. You may go for trim panels to cover the gaps between your normal cabinets and walls or ceilings. These custom cabinets are precisely cut to fit these areas.

You may be able to use stock cabinets even if your kitchen requires installations that are not normal. With some innovativeness you can use the stock cabinets for this purpose. You may get some pre-finished plywood sheets that match your cabinets and use these to create fillers, angled connections and soffits.

If your kitchen design calls for a fairly unusual installation, you may still be able to accommodate it with stock cabinets, using a little creativity. For example, you might order additional materials from the manufacturer like pre-finished plywood sheets and hardwood pieces that match the cabinets. You can then have these sheets fabricated to create fillers, soffits, angled connections, islands, and so forth.

With the knowledge of kitchen cabinet sizes your entire kitchen design and preparation phase may become a lot more straightforward and smooth for you.
