Kitchen Cabinets Paint

Applying kitchen cabinets paint can easily save you money at the same time changing the entire feel of your kitchen. Kitchen remodelling is usually the most costly project. Kitchen cabinets accounts for about half of your kitchen redesign budget.

Kitchen Cabinets Paint

Usually every five to ten years depending on the quality of your kitchen cabinets you will need to consider replacing them. The cabinets face the brunt of the kitchen, cooking grease and appear faded and shabby.

If the quality of your old kitchen cabinet is fine, then painting kitchen cabinets can provide a new lease of life to them. Depending on the material your kitchen cabinet is made of you need to choose kitchen cabinets paint.

Painting wood kitchen cabinets needs the cabinets to be cleaned and sanded. You then need to add primer to the surface to prepare it for painting.

If you have melamine made cabinets, you need to clean then and then apply melamine primer to it. Without applying the primer if you try to paint them most likely the paint will start peeling off too quickly.

You need metal primers to be applied prior to painting metal cabinets. If the metal has a textured finish then it would perhaps be better to reconsider painting the cabinets. Metal cabinets with smooth finish can be painted easily.

Your choices for kitchen cabinets painting would mostly be to choose from oil based paints or latex based paints. Oil based paints give a more durable finish but are harder to handle.

Choose paints that will give durable finishes as well as would be easy to clean. Choose shiny or matte finish depending on the environment it would be in. The finished product should match your kitchen décor.

The natural environment for your kitchen is hot and sticky. Choose paints that are manufactured specially for kitchens. These wards off the humidity and give you better longevity. Paints like these are mostly available in satin finishes.

A glossy paint will give you a modern finish. These gives better longevity than emulsions but repairing the damage on these are much harder. For metal cabinets glossy paints are the best choice.

Painting old kitchen cabinets to faux finish can give special decorative finishes to your kitchen cabinets. Choose the techniques that are suitable for kitchen cabinets.

A crackle-glaze affect can be given to your kitchen cabinet for achieving a rustic look. These are easily available in ready do it yourself kits and can easily applied.

Remove the cabinet doors before applying paint to kitchen cabinets. Clean the surface and sand them. Depending on the painting material you choose apply the necessary primer.

For example you may need to choose oil-based primers for wood that has thick lined wood grains. Latex primers can work best for wood that has lighter wood grains.

Once the primer dries off do some more sanding and then apply coats of paints in thin layer. You can apply varnish to make the cabinets water resistant. Kitchen cabinets paint can work magic in transforming your kitchen cabinets. Painting also adds life to the cabinets adding to their durability.
